Inside the Studio: The Art of Distillation

The Creative Bridge
April has been a whirlwind of activity. As my Belfast exhibition comes to a close, I am shifting my focus toward the sunny southeast. I’m currently making the final decisions on which pieces will be traveling with me to Wexford for my exhibition towards the end of May.
While the logistics of exhibitions take up plenty of time, my focus is in the studio and the excitement of new ideas.
Abstracting the Mournes
I’ve recently stepped back into the role of the student, taking a deep dive into an online course focused on abstracting the landscape.
I already try to capture the feeling of being in the landscape and I do like to combine a loose abstract feel with elements of realism.
However, I’m curious to explore how I could take this further, to possibly let go of any representation and instead capture that feeling of being there, through a process of simplification. Even if I don’t fully embrace abstraction I feel it’s important to push myself beyond my comfort zone to a place where learning and growth can happen.
Coming Soon: New Beachlife Prints
To those of you on my email list, thank you so much for your comments and feedback on the selection of originals I shared recently. Your insights into which resonate with you are helping me develop the upcoming Beachlife Print Collection.
It’s always a joy to see which pieces speak to you most, and I'm excited to see this collection take shape based on your input.

Looking Ahead
The studio is a place of constant evolution. I can’t wait to see where these new abstractions lead as we head toward the summer.
The Beachlife Collection will be available in June, in the meantime you can view my current canvas prints here
Until then, may your May be full of new energy and bright light.
Warmly, Norma
